ZNO-2020: how to calculate the mathematics score
The results of external independent evaluation in mathematics are determined in two stages. At the first stage, the test score of the participant of the external evaluation is determined (maximum – 62 points). At the second stage, on the basis of the test score is determined rating assessment of the results of the external evaluation of the participant on a 200-point scale used in the rating list of applicants for admission to universities in Ukraine.
At the request of the FPE participant, the results of testing in mathematics can be translated into a rating on a scale of 1-12 points to ensure that the results of FPE are counted as a state final certification.
As the state final certification in mathematics is counted performance of tasks number 1-30, 33 and 34 (maximum 52 points for tasks DPA).
HOW THE TEST SCORE IS CALCULATED
Tasks with the choice of one correct answer (#1-20) – the task consists of the basis and five answer choices, of which only one is correct. The task is considered completed if the participant of the external independent assessment chose and marked the answer in the answer sheet A.
A single-answer assignment is rated 0 or 1 point: 1 point if the correct answer is given; 0 points if the wrong answer is given or more than one answer is given; or no answer is given.
Matching Assignments (“logical pairs”) (#21-24) – The assignment consists of a base and two columns of information marked with numbers (left) and letters (right). The job involves matching (creating “logical pairs”) between information marked with numbers and letters. The assignment is considered to be completed if the participant of the external independent evaluation made marks on the intersections of rows (figures from 1 to 3) and columns (letters from A to D) in the answer sheet table A. Matching Assignments (“logical pairs”) are scored 0, 1, 2, or 3 points: 1 point for each valid match (“logical pair”); 0 points for any “logical pair” if more than one mark is made on the row and/or column; 0 points for the assignment if no valid match (“logical pair”) is specified or no response is provided.
Structured Open Form Job with Short Answer (No. 25-27) – Job consists of a base and two parts and provides the solution to the problem. The assignment is considered completed if the external independent assessor, having made the corresponding numerical calculations, wrote down, observing the requirements and rules, the answers to each of the parts of the problem in answer sheet A.
The structured assignment is scored 0, 1 or 2 points: 1 point for each correct answer; 0 points if both wrong answers are given or no answer is given.
Open-ended, short answer unstructured assignment (No. 28-32) – The assignment consists of a foundation and provides a solution. The assignment is considered completed if the participant of the external independent evaluation, having made the corresponding numerical calculations, wrote down, observing the requirements and rules, the final answer on the answer sheet A.
An unstructured assignment is rated 0 or 2 points: 2 points if a correct answer is given; 0 points if an incorrect answer is given or no answer is given.
Open-ended Expanded Response Form Assignment (No. 31-33) – The assignment consists of a foundation and provides a solution. The assignment is considered completed if the participant of the external independent evaluation in answer sheet B specified all the stages of the solution and justified them, made a reference to mathematical facts from which this or that statement follows, illustrated the solution of the problem with drawings, graphs, etc.
Tasks of the open form with a detailed answer No. 33, 34 are evaluated as 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 points. Task No. 35 is scored as 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6.
HOW THE RATING SCORE IS CALCULATED
To obtain the results of the external evaluation of the participant on a 200-point scale, the Table of Test Points Conversion into a Rating Scale from 100 to 200 points is used.
The table of conversion of test points into a rating scale from 100 to 200 points is published by the Ukrainian Rating Center (UTSOKO) only after checking the correctness of each participant’s tasks and determining the threshold point “passed / failed”.
The Test Score Transfer Table should be made public no later than July 17, 2020. The specified scale is a rating scale, as it indicates the place of the result of external independent evaluation of the person among the results of other participants in testing in mathematics.
When calculating this scale, the results of test participants who have not passed the threshold test score on the results of testing will not be taken into account. Threshold score is defined by groups of experts who analyze the actual performance of test tasks by the participants of the testing and on the basis of this analysis determine the number of test scores defining the threshold test score in mathematics. Test participants who fail to pass a certain threshold test score will be considered to have failed the test.
It should be noted that the definition of the rating score by the tables of translation of test scores of previous years will be inaccurate. Rating score may differ significantly considering different levels of tests and different actual results of test participants’ performance. Tables of translation of test scores from previous years can be viewed on the following link.
The table of translation of test scores into 1-12 scale grades is also published after checking the correctness of each participant’s mathematics task no later than July 17, 2020.
